First talk by Michael Carrick’s interim manager Brendan Rodgers EXCLUSIVE, updates from Pochettino]

Brendan Rodgers has been contacted by Manchester United following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer today.

The Red Devils are ready to pay £ 8million in compensation to their current club Leicester.

This comes on top of a £ 7.5million win for Solskjaer.

Former Liverpool boss Rodgers has a clause in his contract allowing him to speak to certain clubs if they come knocking on the door – and United are one of them.

Luis Enrique was brutally excluded from the Manchester United manager hunt.

Asked about replacing Solskjaer at the United seat, Enrique told La Sexta: “Today is April Fool’s Day?”

Solskjaer sacked believes his successor MUST win the Premier League.

He said: “Well, as I have said several times in interviews, I have been supported.

“The board of directors and the owners have supported me in [terms of] bring good people, good players and I think, or I know I am leaving this club with a better team.

“The environment is fantastic, it’s an environment that I am proud to leave because you have to love coming to work here.

“I don’t want to anticipate anything, but the two times I left Molde they won the championship the following year.

“So all the best to whoever takes over – these are the expectations!” “
