Drugs worth more than Rs 5 crores seized in Guwahati; 4 held


Guwahati Police today confiscated a massive stockpile of contraband substances worth Rs 5-8 crore in Guwahati; and arrested four members of an international drug trade.

Those arrested were identified as – Md. Islam Uddin, Md. Aboi, Md. Sakir Ahmed – residents of Manipur. While the fourth defendant is identified as – Md. Abbad Ali of Bihar.

Based on specific information, a team from Guwahati City Police led by Joint Commissioner of Police – Partha Sarathi Mahanta launched an operation along Gorchuk area and intercepted a dump truck.

The consignment was intended for delivery to Bangladesh; informed the police.

Taking to Twitter, Guwahati Police wrote, “#WarOnDrugs Guwahati police strike again and hit the drug cartels hard! Spl Squad led by JCP Partha Mahanta retrieved 100,000 Yaba tablets from a dump truck. The narcotics, worth ₹5-8 crore, were on their way to a neighboring country. 4 traffickers are arrested. Another investigation is underway.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister of Assam – Himanta Biswa Sarma also commended the team for the massive drug shipment. “Bravo” – he wrote.
